High Speed Track Action at Autobahn Put an Exclamation Point on the Time Attack Challenge Season
High Speed Track Action at Autobahn Put an Exclamation Point on the Time Attack Challenge Season

You want high speed Autobahn action? The Tire Rack SCCA® Time Attack Challenge provided just that – at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL, that is.
The weather during the Aug. 2-3, 2025, weekend was perfect with a grippy track, allowing personal bests to be set – and reset – all weekend long.
Saturday ran as smooth as a well-tuned V-8. Using a similar metaphor, Sunday’s runs around the same 15-turn, 2.1-mile south circuit was akin to a rotary engine – yes, there were a few hiccups, but drivers got their times in. In all, it was a spectacular turnout in a part of the country primed for high performance driving. A total of 93 drivers participated in the time-keeping portion of the weekend (ie: Time Attack Challenge), while 49 more showed up for fun laps via the Special Edition of Track Night in America® on the same circuit.
Leading the Way
If classes measured themselves by quantity, Sport 2 led the way. A stout 15 cars showed up in the class, with Brian Smith and his 2018 Ford Mustang up front. Smith was 1.433sec ahead of Geoff Holbein by the end of the weekend, but Holbein’s Chevrolet Camaro was just two tenths behind Smith on the opening day – it was the second day where Smith shined bright.
Max 1 wasn’t far behind in quantity or quality. David Marcus and his Porsche 911 was the class of the field as the only driver to dip into the 1:28s for a lap time – and he did it both days. Cody Bulkley (Chevrolet Camaro) and Dallas Reed (Chevrolet Corvette) followed in the podium positions.
When it came to close competition, Tuner 3 led the way in a battle of Nissan 350Zs. Ivan Onofriiciuc was quickest on Saturday, but Josiah Douglas stormed back on Sunday. Douglas had the quickest combined time, just 0.415sec ahead when the two days were totaled.
Jackie Ding took the overall top spot, quickest rear-wheel-drive car, and the Unlimited 1 class victory at Autobahn when he did a best single lap of 1:24.275. Reed had the fastest AWD time of 1:30.548, while Will Evans and his Honda Civic was the quickest Front Wheel Drive car on his way to a Max 4 win.
Superlatives to Celebrate
As always, the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge gave away numerous special awards at the end of the weekend. Those were:
Top Novice: Bashar Quaiti, for his approach as well as his pace. He was by far the fastest driver in the Novice group, but he was also always working with the other drivers in impound and was very respectful on track despite the pace difference.
Spirit of Time Trials: Jerome Cahuzac. No stranger to this award, Cahuzac has won this previously. While the staff tries not to give this to the same person twice, he was (once again) overly deserving during the weekend. He towed home not one, but two of his fellow competitors that had car issues. Both tows added almost an hour in the wrong way to his drive home each night, but allowed his fellow competitors the peace of mind of knowing they had one less challenge to overcome.
Champion of Time Trials: This went to Jackie Ding for his constant promotion of not just the SCCA Time Trials program, but also the sport of Time Attack in general. Jackie was at another event the weekend prior and was constantly encouraging other drivers to enter the Autobahn Time Attack Challenge. There are no doubts that quite a few of the event’s late sign-ups were from his efforts.
Up Next: Time Trials Nationals
Next on the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge schedule is the big one: the Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials Nationals at Pittsburgh International Raceway. The Sept. 19-21, 2025, event will take place for the first time at a new location: Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, PA.
This three-day event is the culmination of the Time Attack Challenge season, with bigger parties, bigger competition, bigger everything. This is also where the Time Attack Challenge season champions will be crowned. In other words, this is one you won’t want to miss.
It’s not too late to be part of the Time Trials National action!
