If You Haven’t Driven on This Alan Wilson-Designed Circuit, Your Next Opportunity is Coming Up Fast

Alan Wilson is a name you may not know, but as an enthusiast who is obviously interested in participating in motorsport events at awesome tracks (or else why would you be reading this?), his name should be one you commit to memory. Arguably one of the most prolific racetrack designers, Wilson has penned more than 20 road racing circuits, including Autobahn Country Club, Utah Motorsports Campus, Barber Motorsports Park, Pittsburgh International Race Complex, and (the reason why we’re bringing this up) the next stop on the 2025 Tire Rack SCCA® Time Attack Challenge schedule, Carolina Motorsports Park.
In other words, Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) has quite a pedigree.
Taking place June 14-15, 2025, at that exact racetrack in Kershaw, SC, (which is largely equidistant from Columbia, SC, and Charlotte, NC) CMP offers a 2.279-mile racing circuit packed with 14 turns of gut-wrenching excitement. To score a perfect lap here (be it for a Time Attack Challenge class record or your own personal best), you’ll need to be able to carry enough speed through five or more of CMP’s key corners to maximize your time down those all-important straights.
What does this look like behind the wheel? Ride along with Lee Hill during a 2024 SCCA event at CMP where he was tackling the circuit in his Sport 5 class Scion FR-S:
What to Expect
While check-in and tech begin on Friday, June 13, the real action kicks into gear on Saturday, with paced laps starting at 8 a.m. Time Attack Challenge drivers are then back on track at 9 a.m. for practice sessions, followed by more practice sessions starting at 10:50 a.m., before the timed portion of the weekend sees the green flag after lunch. There, drivers have two sessions to set down their fastest lap.
Sunday is all about speed, with three timed sessions allowing drivers to get the most out of their day. Your fastest time from Saturday adds to your fastest Sunday lap to determine whether you make it onto the KONI Podium, with that celebration taking place Sunday afternoon.
If you’re looking for the times to chase? Peruse the searchable database of Time Attack Challenge’s track records and personal bests.
Don’t know what class you’re in? Check this page out – and if you’re still unsure, when you register, select HELP for your class and we’ll take care of you.
What Else to Expect
Key on the agenda is fun.
CMP is more than a track, it’s a location that’s a destination as much as a racing circuit. What that means is on-site camping and an after-hours paddock experience that can be second to none if you want it to be.
Camping at CMP can be as simple as pitching a tent – and you’re welcome to do that at no charge. There are also 15/20 amp receptacles throughout the facility that are free to use as well, and the bathrooms are clean and air conditioned.
Want to bring your RV? Spots sporting everything from 30 amps to 100 amps are available for rent.
Find out more about camping at the facility on CMP’s website.
