Las Vegas is About to Deal an Awesome Hand for the Inaugural SCCA Shootout
Everyone goes to Las Vegas to be a winner, and the best way to guarantee that is to put an equal amount on black and red. OK, that might not be the best advice to give for a Vegas adventure, but try out this one: Drive to Vegas for the Feb. 15-16, 2025 Tire Rack SCCA® Shootout and participate in both an autocross and Time Attack during the same weekend. Now that’s a winning combination!
Autocrossing on Saturday and hitting the track on Sunday is the name of the game in the brand-new-for-2025 Tire Rack SCCA Shootout, and Vegas is where the inaugural event hits the gas. The weekend involves a full day of autocross followed by a day of Time Attack, with the scores from each day combining for the final standings.
The Rules of the Game
This technically is the first Tire Rack SCCA Shootout event ever held in the history of the world, but don’t be scared – it’s everything you know and love, jammed into one weekend. Yes, competing in a Time Attack and an autocross in the same weekend will test you, but that’s why it’s fun.
It’s also part of the fun that this event uses autocross car classing rules for the competition, namely Street Touring®, CAM, Xtreme Street, Club Spec, and Solo Spec Coupe classes. Not sure if your autocross car fits into one of these categories? Unless you wheel a full-on Prepared or Modified SCCA Solo® car, there’s a really good chance you’ll fit. As for Time Trials class cars, you’ll find that most of the Tuner and Sport classes largely align with Street Touring’s ruleset, with Max cars sliding into CAM or Xtreme Street.
Check out the Solo Rules here.
You’ll also want to eye the Time Trials Level 1 safety rules, because all cars must meet these requirements, too.
Aces High
Here’s what you can expect from the Feb. 15-16 Tire Rack SCCA Shootout weekend in Las Vegas:
- Four autocross runs on Saturday morning
- Four autocross runs on Saturday afternoon running the course in reverse
- Lapping the outside road course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday with four sessions
Your weekend’s score will be a combination of your fastest autocross run on Saturday morning, your fastest autocross run on Saturday afternoon, and your fastest lap around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway road course circuit.
For class competition and series points, the driver in each class with the lowest combined time for the weekend takes the win. But no matter how you add it up, this Shootout in Vegas will be all aces!
