An SCCA Track Night (Day), Too!

This Time Trials National Tour stop at Thompson is perfect for those who like to have #funwithcars while enjoying the July 4 weekend. And to further celebrate Independence Day, SCCA is offering an independent Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack event held throughout the day on Friday, July 1, at Thompson. It’s a cool opportunity to play around on track, then watch the TTNT program and talk with folks who share a passion for cars and driving.

Track Night in America – but in the daytime at Thompson – is a non-competitive, easy, and inexpensive way for anyone to get on a racecourse in their own vehicle. You can learn more at TrackNightInAmerica.com, or just sign up by clicking the button below. And once again, space is limited. Don’t delay and sign up today!

Thompson’s Track

It has been nearly 730 days since Time Trials National Tour last visited Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, which was actually the site of SCCA’s first-ever competition event more than 75 years ago. For 2022, drivers will navigate the 1.7-mile, 11-turn circuit – a layout totally rebuilt only eight years ago.

It's a challenging track, featuring corners such as The Chute and Diving Turn, in a beautiful setting with lush hills in the distance. If you’ve not traversed the circuit previously, click the button below for in-car video from an SCCA Time Trials participant who took part in the last Thompson event two years ago.

Thompson TTNT Record Book

Having visited Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park twice before means there are official TTNT lap benchmarks. Much can change in two years as far as driver skill and car prep, so TTNT track records could be reset at Thompson. Below are a few notable previous lap times to keep an eye on.

Unlimited 1: David Sanders, 1:17.718 (2003 Chevrolet Corvette)
Max 2: Donald Lui, 1:19.264 (2014 Scion FR-S)
Sport 2: Mark Sarcevicz, 1:19.461 (2002 Chevrolet Corvette)
Tuner 4: Nicholas Austin, 1:21.926 (2002 Honda S2000)

The Weekend Plan for Thompson

This two-day Time Trials National Tour visit opens Friday morning with practice sessions for all three run groups, followed by TrackAttack sessions after lunch. And as usual, the first day closes with a “can’t be missed” Hagerty Social Dinner Party open to all participants.

SCCA’s special TrackSprint feature will be part of Saturday morning’s activities, followed by more TrackAttack sessions after lunch. The event then comes to a close late Saturday afternoon with the KONI Podium Celebration.
