Looking Forward: CMP Time Trials National Tour

The 2022 Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials National Tour Powered by Hagerty kicks off during the March 25-27 weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP), with three days of action that’s sure to thrill anyone looking for quality track time, competition and fun.

The weekend begins Friday afternoon, with event check-in running from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the track. Those unable to make it on Friday can swing by registration starting 7 a.m. on Saturday.

The track goes hot at 8:30 a.m., with pace laps introducing the field to the challenging 14-turn Kershaw, S.C., circuit, followed by two practice sessions. Saturday afternoon brings TrackAttack, as competitors rocket around the full 2.27-mile road course to set their fastest lap time. Saturday evening then gives drivers, crew, family and friends a chance to unwind thanks to the Hagerty Social Dinner party.

Sunday morning brings TrackSprint to the equation, where drivers take on the clock via a standing-start-to-flying-finish format on a specially selected portion of the track. Two more TrackAttack sessions follow, as do Koni podium celebrations.

Hold on, though, because lap records are sure to drop. Beyond CMP’s recently repaved surface, a new way of running the competition will allow more open track for drivers and a great chance at setting that ultimate lap time. Therein, five run groups will become six during competition, raising the entry cap while simultaneously reducing car counts for each group and maximizing the possibility of setting your personal best.

Not quite ready for the full Time Trials National Tour experience? Those looking to dip their toe into track driving can enter the non-timed, non-competition Track Event taking place alongside this Time Trials National Tour.

Meanwhile, family and friends unable to make it to the track will be able to tune in Gregg Ginsberg, as he broadcasts the action via a live audio feed found on timetrials.scca.com.

“We are super excited to be back at CMP to kick off the 2022 Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials National Tour Powered by Hagerty,” said John Hunter, SCCA’s National Time Trials Manager. “Working with SCCA’s North Carolina Region has always been an awesome experience – they always show up in a big way to help with the event. I’m also really looking forward to the potential of new lap records being set. Between the repave and the caliber of drivers and cars showing up, this will be an awesome start to the season!”

Sounds like a blast, right? Join the action by registering, and we’ll see you on March 25!
